vectorlinux slackware compatibility

Hi guys,

I heard that vectorlinux can use the packages from the www.linuxpackages.net .. And I want to know, if I am using vectorlinux-5.0 Standard Edition, which slackware version is compatible with it? If you can see at linuxpackages.net, we must pick a compatible version for our specific packages. Any information?

you dont have to pick the compatible version. its just that say a 10.2 package has been compiled with all the versions of libraries etc that are on slackware 10.2. I've never had a problem installing an old package, say 9.1, on say a 10.2 installation.

my advice would be to give it a try. run the application from the terminal and see what the output is. I would try 10.1 packages as these came out about the same time as vector 5.0 and so the librarie versions and other packages are likely to be similar.

that is only MHO tho...
