making some boot disks

i just snagged the latest vl iso for my crappy old comp... it is so crappy in fact that you cannot boot from the cd drive. this presents an obvious problem. now i've gathered through farting around online that this problem can be ameliorated by using the rawrite program from dosutils on the iso, and cranking out some boot disks

however the actual procedure for this seems somewhat unclear to me. there's a "fips20" program along with "rawrite" and "rawrite3". additionally there are two images, "bootide.img" and "root.img"

there's also a fairly cryptic "install" instructions file.

can anyone help me find a clue as the proper manner in going about this... any help would be much appreciated... thanks.

when i did a vector install on my machine i used the rawrite3 i believe from windows 98.

i think there is rawrite.com and rawrite3.exe

I used the .exe from a windows dos window and had no problems

or you could create a 98 startup floppy, reboot with that in, choose with cd support adn then run the rawrite to make the additional disks that are needed.

You need both images, so 2 floppy disks.

Boot with the bootide disk, then eventually it will ask you for the root

I'm running it on a p2 166 with 48 mb ram without too much trouble, a little slow but not too much difference from windows 98 that i can tell.
