installing Lilo on hard drive installation
 

Has anyone else had trouble installing LiLo from the Vector liveCD? I've never succeeded a single time in installing it (either as part of the VL installation or from the VL settings manager). Every time, the installer either says LiLo failed to install or...it indicates that the installation succeeded even though LiLo fails to boot on my hard drive. For this reason, not since the previous release of VL (which I do recall getting LiLo to install from) have I ever successfully installed VL to a hard disk or USB stick.

I have no idea why it never works, except that when it's trying to install LiLo, I keep seeing brief messages to the effect of "Can't install *."

I use VLocity (aka VL7-STD-amd64) and installed GRUB2 for my dual-boot system. Gave up on Grub Legacy and had trouble with LILO myself.

Downside -- must become root and use the
command instead of the simpler <update-grub> which, BTW, is a stub for the above, when changes are made. It is also difficult to change the menu display. But it works! So I accept it.
