Great installation, but...
...I have a problem with my Sony Vaio laptop. It has an italian keyboard that I indeed want to use and none of the settings (itibm, it, it2) offered during the installation or by vasm appear to work. As I am familiar with the US keyboard layout I use that for the moment, but I really need to use the italian built-in keyboard. (88 keys).
Can anyone help? Other than that, it's a superb distribution! Cheers, Joe |

Solved
While waiting for replies I, in fact, visited the vectorlinux forums. Thanks to this
http://vectorlinux.com/forum/viewtop...hlight=xmodmap I have been directed to the area where to do my mods. I have, however, discovered there seem to be a problem in the /etc/X11/xdm/Xsession file. The symptom of the problem were listed in the xsession log file .xsession-errors.log, where it said that xmodmap was not found. Obviously the path to xmodmap was not set, so I reshuffled bits of Xsession around so that the path is set prior to invoking xmodmap. All works fine now. Thanks, Joe |
Hmmmm....
Weird. I didn't encounter that problem , when I wrote that howto , nor did I hear anything like it from the other "Vectorians". Could it be , you've been joshing around with xsession , before you tried this? I hadn't and had no problems at all. That could explain your problem.(Just a wild guess..) |
I don't think so
I don't thinks so, I had just downloaded the iso of vectorlinux and installed it, then I tried to sort out my keyboard problem, posted my initial question, did a little more research, found the link with xmodmap hints, applied them and when I could not get it to xmodmap my keyboard at startup (though obviously the command typed directly at xterm worked) I started to look for a better single place to put the command in. I also checked the dates of other files and none but the files indicated by the xmodmap hints had been modified. Perhaps soemthing needed to be done with respect to file permissions?
I'm happy now, currently hunting for ripping tools with a graphical interface that does not require gnome.... Thanks a lot, Joe |
