Hello all,
I am sorry if I sound desparate. Also posted in the VL forums.
I am not able to configure/install my ethernet card. The details are
ACCTON EN1207D (on card)
SMC2-1211TX (what VL says the card is)
I am confused as to what actually the card is.
Anyone has encountered such problems? I am new to VL and also Linux, please help me. I am liking VL till now and want to stick with it.
thanks
-sakya
I- see what you mean.
lspci is reading an eprom on the card itself. What's written on the label is put there by the vendor - packaging. Suspect they are the same chipset.
however - you havn't said what your trouble is. Please say what you have tried to get the card configured etc. and what happened that told you that this process didn't work.
VL doesnt recognise my ethernet card. I tried using the VASM->autosetup. It doenst give any error then. But when I set up the INET, it cannot find eth0.
I presume the drivers are not installed for the network card. I downloaded the realtek RL8129 driver as it is supposed to work for this card as well. It is a *.c file. I am having a very hard time installing the source file. Can anyone advise what should be done?
To compile a .c file, read gcc man page.
You could always try:
gcc -c drivername.c
(or something like that - check against the man page so you get to understand what I'm saying.) The output will be drivername.o, which should be the module you need. However, this seems a suspiciously uncomplicated driver ... usually you get a tarball with a script or three and a makefile as well as headers and the main source file. I suspect you have the wrong one.

Please post the ouput of 'lspci' (you'll need to be root to run it, just type 'lspci' into a terminal). If you could also post the ouput of 'lsmod', that would be great. And are you running VectorLinux 4 or 5.1?
Here's a hint, by the way: If you want to store the ouput of a command to a file run the command as such:
#lspci > lspci.out.txt
Where '#' is the command prompt. The '>' tells bash to redirect the output of the command. If you want to know what's in the file do:
