Customizing the GUI login screen
 

I would like to know if it is possible to change the apperance of the xfree86 login screen you get if you choose to login in GUI mode (like themes for the login screen) Or to install something like GDM (gnomes login screen)

Also is it possible to remove the menu where you have to select which desktop you want to use and just start ICEwm automatically

Edit your $HOME/.xinitrc,
replace the line

exec xwmmenu

with

dfm &
exec icewm
