hello
I cant get my minolta pagepro 1200w to print. I have downloaded the drivers (two different versions) and cant get it to print. I go to test print and cups says its "off line" i have had this problem off an on for years and is the only reason i keep giving up on linux and going back to windows (i feel ashamed). Please help me.
thanks in advance
i tried to find printconf on the net. after many attemps i downloaded it in rpm, i installed it but couldnt seem to run it. Anyway i dont know if it will help because i have tried to print from Vector linux, ubuntu, slackware and a few live cds but none of them work. Ubuntu seems to have a good cups frontend but still the same problem. The system knows the printer is there, it wants to print but after the page is sent the printer says its offline. If you think printconf would work please give me some detalis of where to find it because im not sure if the rpm works (also i tried to download the debian package but there server was down. I have also tried usb and paralell but no luck. printer does print in windows though
Distribution: Anything NOT SystemD (ie. M$) related.

ok well we know your printer works.. so thats coool.
you may want to compile printconf if you can't find a copy that will just install.
and what do you mean you have 2 drivers installed? that doesn't sound good.
you should have one file with a ppd extension.. which is theee driver.
the reason i am big on printconf, is because i have the least amount of problems printing with it.
get the source (i'm not sure where).. but the source as you may know is the pure code that needs to be compiled. it's extension is usually gz or bz or something similar compressed file.
and i don't know if you've ever compiled somthing.. but it is more scary sounding than anything.
it is basically 3 commands, and the benefits are wounderous..in that, it tells you little things about how to make the program reallly shine on your unique systems...and it leads to answers of how to make sure it installs correctly.
Hi lordfarrel,
I had similar problem, but. You have to install the so called driver beside the ppd file.
Download the latest from the driver homepage found on linuxprinting.org:
www dot hinterbergen dot de/mala/min12xxw/
(I'm a , can't post urls yet)
then extract it to a temporary directory and bring up a console in that location.

Hi,
when running make install, an executable file called 'min12xxw' goes to /usr/local/bin. This is some filter thingy I think, but I'm not in the mental state of understanding linux printing for now. Tried the CUPS docs, but it's loooong .
