Xubuntu 9.04 when in Firefox will suddenly crash back to log in screen..why???
Hi all, just switched distro's after seriously becoming fed up with fedora10. the lack of support for my mp3 was the final straw.
Anyway, I have now moved to xubuntu which does support the thing, however I now have a potentially hair ripping fault (if that is the right description)
Everything runs ok, I tried the apps inbedded, and it is all just like ubuntu, obviously but blue and very clean lines and a nice feel, so I am happy here, like ubuntu but blue.
However i open up firefox and went onto the net, went into google, did a search, clicked on the webpage, rotated the middle wheel on my optical mouse and suddenly JJ crashed and i ended back up at the user log in screen.
Anyone know of this fault, or how i can stop it happening? be much appreciated if you can.
All the best

The problem is worse than just firefox and its not just clicking to move into another page...The whole system freezes irregardless of what you doing and then it reverts back to the log in page - no save so everything you have done is lost...This is unacceptable, but i am sure that other users of Jaunty Jackelope for either ubuntu, xubuntu must have experienced this. (Yes when ran Jaunty Jaceklope after it was first released it did this as well, it got 3 days before i binned the distro, and here I am back again...I must be mad)

right, your xserver is resetting itself for some reason. I'm on jaunty myself, gonna have a quick look around.

Ok, when you get a chance, do the following please:
boot into jaunty, and try to force it to repeat the behaviour you describe. When it freezes, and returns you to the login screen, please do the following: press ctrl, alt, and F1 together. This will get you a command line login. Login using your regular user name and password. Then use the following commands:
Code:
cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log >> /home/your-username/xorg.log
sudo shutdown -h now
Turn back on your machine, login as normal, and try to post the file xorg.log from your home directory: (Go to Places -> Home)
You may need to print this for your ease of use!
