Hi,

This may not be very helpful, but I had a really terrible time upgrading my distro. Things went much more smoothly with a fresh install. I am a Kubuntu user, but when I tried the main Ubuntu distro, after installing, a list of recommended packages would pop enabling most multimedia support. If you haven't already tried this search for xine in the package manager, uninstall it, then reinstall. Alternatively, you can try this

Code:
sudo apt-get remove xine-ui libxinel-ffmpeg
sudo apt-get install xine-ui libxine1-ffmpeg
