Xandros to Ubuntu

Hello,

At present I have win XP dual booting with Xandros with all working Ok except that I cant get an adsl internet connection with Xandros. I want to get rid of Xandros and put ubuntu on my HDD instead. At present I have a 40gig HDD with about 30 partioned for XP and the rest for Xandros. How do I go about replacing Xandros with Ubuntu without losing access to XP which I need? Im capable with XP but know little about linux and boot loaders.

Thanks in advance!

Back up all your Xandros work and settings (the /home folder, essentially).

During the Ubuntu install process, you'll be asked whether you want to reformat the entire hard drive or edit the partition table manually--choose the latter.

Then, select the current Xandros partition to be formatted as ext3-type filesystem and mounted as /

Later in the install process, it'll say it recognizes Windows as another OS. It'll ask whether you want to install Grub to the MBR. Answer yes.

thanks aysiu, I am now replying to you from Ubuntu which I have now managed to install (with a minor hiccup induced by me) and can connect to the internet without drama. Thank you very much.

Excellent. A word of advice--use the Ubuntu Guide. It'll save you a lot of heartache:
