X11?

Ubuntu does not have X11, so what does it have? Has anyone got qt4 to work on Ubuntu? What is embedded Linux?

Nylex 09-12-2005 01:31 PM

Do you mean Ubuntu doesn't have XFree86 as it's X server? It'll be using X.org, then.

XavierP 09-12-2005 01:42 PM

fakie_flip - a better way to phrase this would be:
1. Ubuntu does not have X11, so what does it have?
2. Has anyone got qt4 to work on Ubuntu?
3. What is embedded Linux?

Now the answers:
1. I bet it does, what do your searches show? (Hint: look in /usr and /etc)
2. Ubuntu uses Gnome. Gnome doesn't use QT. To install QT, you will need to resolve a number of dependencies.
3. I will rephrase the question to say "I want you all to use Google for me". Embedded Linux is well known and there are a number of pages dedicated to it.

Look inside /etc/X11/xorg.conf - this is configuration for X server
About Qt4, I have it installed through repositories. Add repositories (ftp://ftp.us.debian.org/) to your apt-get or synaptic and install Qt4

Thanks alot slackerLX. That was much more helpful than the smart ellic comments. If I wanted a guess of what Ubuntu had I would of done that. I know Gnome and Ubuntu does not have qt. I know that Ubuntu uses only Gnome. I am using it. Of course I would need to install qt4 if I do not have it. Just forget I asked.

BTW, I've been testing Ubuntu for a week now. Still fail to understand why people like it. Everything is inside out! In word - cr#p.
I develop on SuSE. It has great Qt4 support environment and mountains of documentation. For the same reason I also use Slackware as Desktop; Slackware is a extraordinary combination of complexity and simplicity as well as security similar to FreeBSD.

"Everything is inside out! In word - cr#p."

Care to qualify that? I have plenty of problems with ubuntu, and hardly consider it the holy grail, but I'm interested in what reasons you have to make a sweeping statement like that one.

Here is one of them and no one, and I mean no one has done it ever.

<now now, we don't want this here> how is that for a smart question?

XavierP 09-13-2005 02:32 PM

fakie_flip - if you don't want to receive answers like the ones you have been receiving, try asking proper questions.

Why not just say "where is the X config file in Ubuntu?" rather than the one you actually posted.

Strangely contradictory. ;)

I don't think so. one post was two days ago while testing was still going on, and the other one is of today when testing has finished and verdict is pronounced. :p And again I blame nobody. It's just my personal subjective opinion.

What Ubuntu release are you using. Hoary or Breezy.

In Hoary you're not going to find qt4 in the repositories, so you will have to find another way. Maybe it'll be in Breeze (released next month) cause I can see some qt4 packages in the Breezy repos.
