wireless stability between kubuntu and ubuntu
hi,
i posted a thread in the linux newbie section about kubuntu vs opensuse, their wireless stability. i am currently nearing the end of my few days trial of opensuse and its going good so far. i trialled ubuntu for a few days and tbh i loved it. i like the fact aht it has a massive community support and lots applications and its ease of use. the only problem i found with it is the stability of the wireless. after 3 days of installing ubuntu and updating all my drivers on all my hardware, the wireless just stops working. thats even when sitting next to the wireless router. i know it's not a router problem as i have another laptop thats running vista and its working fine. happened to my mate aswell a few weeks back. we both ran ubuntu hardy heron. i have a broadcom bcm4312 wireless card, and for those first 3 days. the wireless connection was top notch. so i was wondering if this is a common problem with ubuntu and if kubuntu has this problem? because kubuntu is just ubuntu but with kde, so wondered if the wireless stability is the same as ubuntu. |
anyone able to help?

I had a similar issue in Mandriva whereas the native broadcom driver wouldn't work. So I installed the ndiswrapper pkgs and windows drivers and everything was happy. But when I'd reboot it would keep trying to load the native drivers. I removed them completly so the only driver was ndis..problem solved. Hope it helps..

The B43xx drivers are broken in hardy(bug report). You should be able to get the wireless working by using the ndiswrapper to load the b43 windows drivers.
here is a short tutorial. |
