Wireless signal strength indicator
Hi,
I run Ubuntu 7.04 on Dell XPS laptop. Wireless connection works great but I cannot seem to get wireless signal strength indicator showing. Does anybody know how to do it?

Are you looking for something that shows signal strength in the system tray?
I haven't seen a program that work in Gnome (maybe I missed it). There is a KDE program called KWiFiManager that does this. Unfortunately, adding KDE will add a lot of bloat to your system if that is all you are using it for.
Wifi-Radar does not go into the system tray but it is a good program for finding hot-spots.

If gnome doesn't have a GUI tool, and you do not want to use the KDE tools like wlassistant, you can always get this information from the command line:
sudo iwlist eth1 scanning Obviously, you'll have to change eth1 for whichever your wireless interface is.

Right click on the panel on which you want the network monitor.
Select "Add to Panel."
Under "System & Hardware" select "Network Monitor."
Click on "Add" then "Close."
You can move it to where you want it on the panel. If you don't like it on the panel, right click on it and "Remove from Panel."
