Wireless card disabled after clean reinstall to 8.10
Hi,
I recently had 8.04 x86 for my laptop. When it installed, the wireless adapter worked from day 1. For a few reasons I decided to do a clean install to 8.10. Since then, my wireless card has been disabled. I have a button that enables/disables wireless cards. When I press it, the wi-fi button stays lit, but the bluetooth icon will toggle on and off. If I remember correctly, the wi-fi is not on when it is not connected to a network. The ethernet port still connects to the internet. When I did: Code:
sudo lshw -C Network Code:
*-network:1 DISABLED Thanks, --davidguygc |
You likely need the backports for your current kernel.

Well all that info is nice, but you failed to tell us the most important thing, what device is it?

What is a "backport"? Just curious.

Sorry to bring up such an old thread. I just installed Ubuntu 9.10 on my compaq presario r4000 and am having the same issue as above with my wireless card. I have done a fair amount of looking and haven't found any good answers yet and was wondering if I could get a hand with this. Thanks.
