Why can't I access search engines
Hi,
Seems that I have another question. After installing Ubruntu, I installed all the available then went to google search, however I could'nt find the site. So, I went to several other site to see if i could get to them. The site loaded right away,so, thinking the problem was with google i went to yahoo only to find that I could'nt access them either. I saw on another thread that this could be caused by a virus, but since this was the first website I went to(and it's Linux) I don't see how this could be.Does anyone have any ideas for what this could be?
Thanks.

Most users connect with DCHP which provides them with an IP and the IPs of that ISPs DNS servers. To insure this is happening correctly power down your PC completely not just with the shutdown function. Power switch on your power strip will do or use the switch on the PC power supply. Now power up everything. Reason I suggest this is that many PCs have standby power which must be removed for a total PC reset.

I would say it could be a few things.
Is your connection broadband or dailup?
If broadband are you using a router?
First guess is a DNS issue. Is the IP you using Static or DHCP?
If Static are you using the routers lan side IP as a DNS or using the ones the ISP provide?
Now the other thought is maybe you have IPv6 enabled. If using firefox disable the IPv6 from the firefox config.
Or a line in /etc/modprobe.conf is enabling IPv6 as well.
This post refers to both. http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...d.php?t=326645

Ok Brian1,
You were right on the money. It was the IPv6 on FireFox. I disabled it and made a couple of more changes and now my browser runs like a top. Thanks for the help.
I found a site that shows a lot of little mods for FireFox. Here it is http://www.howto.helppro.com/howto/s...irefox_31.html
Thanks again.
