Where to find the available seervice?


Hi, I'm a user from yellowdog rpm linux recently change to use ubuntu 5.04.
I remember in YDL I can go to the service tap and see what are the service available, mysql or samba. Is there a way in ubuntu that I can check up is infomation?

I don't know the structure of the Ubuntu filesystem, but most likely your services will be located under /etc/rc.d or /etc/init.d. If you list all of the contents of those directories you will see what services are at your disposal.

azucaro nailed it. /etc/init.d/<services> where <services> are each service available, samba, mysql etc. These can be used to start and stop services- /etc/initd/<service> start | stop | restart. Also there is BUM available, Boot-Up Manager, this will let you do the same transactions, as well as disabling|enabling services at boot.
