Where does Ubuntu intall packages?

http://boinc.berkeley.edu/dev/forum_thread.php?id=1769

Question: Where does Ubuntu install packages when you use the pull downmenu on the Desktop (Applications>Add/Remove)?

I am trying to install BOINC (see www.fightaidsathome.com). However, according to what I have found out on another forum, what I see with BOINC is only a GUI. I need to execute "run_client".

I don't know where Ubuntu automatically installs packages.

Could sell one tell me where and also how to "execute run_client" from the command line? That would be fantastic!

Thanks for you help!

The package manager will put files in various places. For applications the executables will typically be somewhere in /usr.

Running as root, try:
find /usr -name run_client

I use the climate change boinc project and it installed in the folder where I ran the installer from. So look under,I assume, your /home/username folder.

Hi there. I've just installed Ubuntu today, and I've no idea what I'm doing. I'm hoping learning to install boinc will help kick me off, so could someone explain root to me please.

I don't know what boinc is, but you can get an explanation on root and sudo here:
