what is the success rate of burning cd in ubuntu ??
frankly speaking , i always burn my cd in windows with a slightly lower pc spec than the ubuntu machine(367mem on 400mzh) i'm having now ... in windows i dont have to worry much , just burn with full speed with 100% success rate(especially with cd iso) and thats it and i'm sure that i wont be feeling guilty later on ... even with other opened applications running simultaneously(but preferably not too many and too resource hungry ones) ...
when i'm in linux i just feel less "sercure" *but* after reading that CD/DVD burning software thread , i think its time for me to upgrade/improve myself a little bit more ...
hints on good , easy , "stupid" softwares are welcome ... not nessassrilly must they be somekind of gnome or kde applications ...
so , what is the success rate of burning cd in ubuntu ?? i'm using version 6.06 now ...
//thanks in advance to you guys ...

Code:
sudo apt-get install k3b
a great burning program. Say "yes" to install any extra packages.
after that is done, just launch it from a terminal or the ultra cool "Alt-F2" quick launcher.

are there any other reliable burning softwares which are not gnome/kde specific ??
>> "sudo apt-get install k3b ..."
but i already have gnome installed and for the time being i dont feel like installing another wm ...
[EDIT ::] i'm going to burn about 6 or 10 cd iso non-stop in a stretch ...
[EDIT ::] any other software simpler than gnomebaker , i only need burning iso "feature" ...

I think they use "cdrecord" as their burning tool. So an issue with one will probably have the same issue as another.
cdrecord is a command line burner. Do a "man cdrecord" for more info.
EDIT: Also, if you use Nautilus, Right-click on the iso and select "write to disc". But I suspect that you'll have the same issues. But I don't really understand what you're asking. Are you saying that you're having problems burning CD's with these applications?

i donno yet ... have never i my life burn anything in linux ... kind of like "dont trust" linux when concerning iso burning ...
but this time i will give it a try for the reason of i'm impressed with the ubuntu i'm having now ... preferably in 100% cock-sure casualness , just like when i'm in windows ... "got some more iso ?? ... just burn and dont think too much" ...
i want to do it *only* in linux this time , i think i will use gnomebaker and see how it goes ...
btw , if anybody have experience in any gui cd burning softwares(light-weight or not) which dont "tie-up" with any wm , please let me know ...

both ubuntu, kubuntu, and xubuntu burn cd's out of the box.
I've never had trouble burning cd's in linux, why should it be worse than windows?
You want a program that is more simple than gnome baker??? why?
is the program too hard to use? no.
What is the problem here.

yup , ubuntu burn cd right out of the box ...
i'm using gnomebaker under icewm , no configuring of any preferences but just that burning speed which goes up until 100x , i have to set it to 52x(my maximum , probably it will be set to the writer's max speed by itself if over-shoot) ... just right-clicked and burn 9 cd in a shot non-stop ...
the only thing is that i still cant afford multiple opened applications while doing the burning , kind of like "hard to maintain the momentum" ...
as i said , i'm on lower-spec so only icewm for me but i think if i'm on higher-spec then any combination of softwares and wm will do , its a non-issue anyway ...
i think i will only use linux for burning instead of windows this time ...
ubuntu is great , windows no fight !!

It's a learning curve, and a hard concept to down. But believe me...I have tried to get cd programs to crash before by opening up Openoffice, playing games, having firefox open like 20 tabs at once. At to this day, nothing has caused k3b to screw up a burn. Nothing. Yes I know where you're coming from. I used to use windows and was afraid to stare the computer in the eye while burning for fear of some massive failure. But linux really handles heavy loads well. I think you should go all out and see what your system will let you get away with.

i dont think i'm able to do that right now , probably when i upgraded to p4 with greater mem then i will definately try that , i cant bare to see broken cd lying around for nothing ...
but i'm sure this time its a 100% success rate when burning cd under linux , at least under my present pc spec ...
//ubuntu is great ...
btw ... i'm still looking for those "non-aligned" burning softwares ...

Code:
apt-cache search "CD burning"
one "light-weight" one was xfburn

i believe that one is for xfce(probably i will try that in bsd) ...
found a few :: gcombust(in gtk) and cdrbq(in tcl/tk) , both are light enough and gcombust is the lightest ...
theres also a third party app written in kylix+gtk(i think) but error executing it(donno why) :: Easyburning for linux
i will give gcombust a try during the next round ...
//cheers ...

looking back at my posts , thinking might just as well try burning my cd in console login ... tried that with one more blank cd(last try ... i have sinned) burning another copy of ubuntu 6.06 ...
taken and copied directly from gnomebaker ::
Code:
cdrecord dev=/dev/hdc -force gracetime=5 speed=52 -v -eject -pad /mnt/001/ubuntu6.iso
not bad , feeling the "safest" but seems like this method doesnt make any sense at all ... i think gnomebaker and the likes are the way things go ...
theres a need to improve myself more with a p4 with real ram(as long as they cheap enough) coupled with some real softwares(either downloaded or "off-the-shelf") ... its a blessing ...
ok , i wont touch windows anymore ... piece of cake ...
my only wish list is that i hope the underlying "technology"(so-called) stays as long as possible , lets say ... 5 times the period between 200mmx and a p3 800 ...
//whats the count ?? ... ok , cheers again ...
