Question What is the RIGHT way to disable startup services?


can i just delete the S* files in /etc/rc*.d/ ?

use sysv-rc-conf ?

anther way?

afaik you should take away their execute rights. As in:

chmod -x /etc/rc.d/S.foo

The debian way is:

update-rc.d -f service_name remove

perhaps also in Ubuntu

This is the right way to do it:

sudo aptitude install bum gksu
