What is the best driver for On board HD 7.1 CH Audio CODEC in 6.10?

This is the mobo I am running...
http://www.abit-usa.com/products/mb/...es=1&model=332

The onboard soundcard is a Realtek, from what I can tell, but this webpage only describes it as Audio
- On board HD 7.1 CH Audio CODEC

I downloaded and ran this package, because I found someone with this same board on ubuntuforums.org who said this was the correct driver, but after an auto install and reboot it still doesn't work.

realtek-linux-audiopack-3.5.6b.tar.bz2

Try downloading alsa-driver-1.0.14rc3 from http://alsa-project.org. It is fairly current.

If that doesn't work, run http://bulletproof.servebeer.com/als...s/alsa-info.sh and post the resulting link. I may need to add this system to the driver.

I downloaded that ALSA package and read through the INSTALL readme file, but I must admit that I am new to Linux and it is fairly foreign to me. So those "quick install" instructions didn't make much sense to me.

In your earlier post you mentioned that you are using ubuntu. If so, here is a guide to installing the latest alsa on ubuntu.

This installed from that link worked perfectly (except that the link references RC1 and I installed RC3). Sound works great now. Thanks for the help.
