[SOLVED] weird color problem on new lubuntu 14.04 install

I just installed Lubuntu 14.04. Everything seems to work well except for a strange color problem with certain programs.

I attached two images that show what the program should look like and what it actually looks like.

The terminal program sakura looks like obconf as does baobab. Thunar, geany, xfce4-panel and midori are all normal.

I'm dual booting to an arch system which is where I got the correct image.

I've been around linux for a long time and this one has me baffled.

It's funny how you can forget the hard won lessons from when you were a young technician.

"It can't be that part because it's a brand new part"
"It can't be a bad install because it's a fresh install from a known good source"

It can always be what it is.

In the case a faulty install for whatever reason.
