Webcam Resolution Won't Change for Flashplayer

So you know how when you go to use a webcam application, the size of the picture isnt always the same size picture you get when you use your own utility? For example, if you use guvcview you could see your camera feed in 640x480, or 1280x1024, etc. You then restart the program and it reloads the cam feed and you can see yourself in the new picture size.

Well what seems to be happening is that with the site I am using to webcam, the flashplayer is wanting to display my cam feed in a resolution of, say (making this up on the spot) 320x240, and instead of resizing the entire picture like a scale-t0-fit sort of thing, it wants to just take that 320x240 from the center of that 640x480 or 1280x1024 or whatever.

This means that anyone viewing my cam can only see my eyes and nose, and if they want to see anything else I have to move the computer several multiples of the length of my arms away, giving me the option of using my computer or letting someone see me on my webcam, not both.

I have toyed with it, going back and forth, seeing the effect take place. Going back to the part where I was talking about changing my camera resolution with my own utility, I do not have a setting smaller than 640x480, and I need a resolution of about half that.

As we all know its not so simple to open the Flashplayer settings and tinker around there, due to the fact that under Linux there is a *cough*INTENTIONAL*cough* bug that Adobe is content preserving, so I'm pretty sure my solution is going to involve changing my cameras output resolution so match that of the small size my web app wants to display it in.

However I admit that when it comes to Flash Player automatically detecting my camera feed's resolution and making adjustments automatically according to the way a particular site wants to display it, I am at the end of my technical knowledge.

I'm pretty sure there's a latin term for that as well but idr what it is. I have tried many searches as I wasn't sure this was the place to ask, but I wasn't able to compose a query that returned results relevant to my problem. Thanks in advance, you guys always pull through for me.

Maybe its the website doing it - there aren't many user settings you can fiddle with in Flashplayer from a browser - Windows or Linux. You might spot something in the page source, might be a link to a script, but anyway, there are loads of properties that get set before the flash player is opened on a web page. I assume your webcam work OK generally
(Always worth making sure you've got the latest flash version of course)

I have found what is more or less a workable solution. If you want to display your cam feed in a small res and it has this effect, you need to first start this feed and while it is active start another one that displays in high res and it will adjust the small picture to fit all of the image of the larger feed. When I did this I had both feeds on the same site, stickam.com, you may have issues using different sites & services, I haven't done much experimenting. I will mark this as solved though
