I had just ran updates on my Warty install, and after rebooting because of the new kernel, and doing my normal dropping to console and deleting .ICEauthority to get X to start ( but that is another thread) I found that everything worked excerpt the Gnome menu. I discovered that all of the menu items I created were gone, and that new ones would not stay in the menu. I looked at applications:/// and everything was there, even all the new ones I created thinking I had done it wrong. I tried the "update-menus" command with no change to the problem. I did the update with all the warty Ubuntu repositories enabled but the deb and others off. I have searched and found no other threads stating this problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

happened the same to me....
U can re-add all buttons, etc.
Mouse right click etc...

That was the first thing I tried, I made them both ways and they still won't show up in the menu. I can go to applications:/// in nautilus and see all the menu items I create and can make them into desktop shortcuts that work. But right now there is no way for me to make any new menu items that show up.

hummm, u sure it was with warty? not Hoarty?
if it was hoarty ( Kubuntu ) try kmenuedit if not, no ideia and it did not happen to me...
