I'm trying to resolve a bug with using Inkscape (Ubuntu 8.04.1 64 bit). I see wacom-tools and xserver-xorg-input-wacom are installed, under Synaptic Package Manager. Every time I open Inkscape, the tablet (Wacom Graphire, USB) works only briefly, then the Inkscape application top bar disappears behind the desktop top bar. Subsequent uses of the pen or tablet mouse cause desktop things (under the Inkscape window) to open, and some other haywire actions. I have to use keys to quit Inkscape, after this problem starts. I tried messing with the inkscape input devices submenu (switching between screen and windowed); didn't help.
I hope this isn't an incompatibility with the desktop cube of compiz-fusion, which I also have enabled.

I finally found the time to visit
http://forlong.blogage.de/entries/pages/Compiz-Switch
I downloaded their .deb package. This utility was the quickest way for me to prove that the Compiz desktop manager won't let Inkscape work properly. Sorry for wasting everybody's time.
This utility works fairly well. I notice that I have to activate the Compiz switch twice to re-enable Compiz, and only once to disable (I'm not complaining). Inkscape runs ok, with Compiz switched off by the switch.
