Unhappy VLC - works in Unbuntu but not in Kubuntu?

Hello all-

Running Kubuntu 9.04, cannot get VLC to work. (Or Dragon player, for that matter.)

I went to https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Re...ts/PlayingDVDs

and did sudo apt-get install libdvdread4
and then sudo /usr/share/doc/libdvdread4/install-css.sh

in order to get libdvdcss to work. This procedure worked very well in another computer running Ubuntu 9.04, but not working in KDE under Kubuntu.

What can I do? I am about ready to throw in the towel and just work with Gnome exclusively, although I really like KDE. Please help! Thank you!

Lifted directly from www.medibuntu.org:
Code:
sudo wget http://www.medibuntu.org/sources.list.d/`lsb_release -cs`.list --output-document=/etc/apt/sources.list.d/medibuntu.list; sudo apt-get -q update; sudo apt-get --yes -q --allow-unauthenticated install medibuntu-keyring; sudo apt-get -q update

sudo apt-get install libdvdcss2

sudo apt-get install w32codecs

sudo apt-get install vlc
Admittedly, I'm running gnome, under regular ubuntu, but I have used this method in kubuntu, it is the recommended way. Please adjust 'w32codecs' to 'w64codecs' if you are running a 64 bit kernel.
