Question VLC - Playing DVDs, Need help config

Hi,

I Installed VLC Player in My Pressario CQ56 and everything seems to play well exept for DVDs. VLC shows me the title and the time but stops there and nothing else happens.
I think it might be only in the config but I have no ideas how to make it work.

Distro: Ubuntu 12.04 LTS

Thanks for all Inputs.

how did you install vlc ?
from videolan.org or the ubuntu repos ?
http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-ubuntu.html

or
Code:
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install vlc vlc-plugin-pulse mozilla-plugin-vlc
and are these unknown DVD's for your country
if they are for a different "zone" then you might be out of luck
( should not matter on vlc , but ...)

what are these dvd's ?
store bought ?
download of an iso and burned to dvd ?
homemade dvd's using say dvdcreator ?

Thumbs up SOLVED - "VLC - Playing DVDs, Need help config" update

Thanks John W for your quick reply, but I found info that helped me fix my problem here's what I did :

I first installed VLC using :

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install vlc

and then I found the commmand:

sudo /usr/share/doc/libdvdread4/install-css.sh

after installing libdvdread4, I went into Ubuntu software center and searched for the package(regionset)
and Installed it, now everything in VLC works well, all DVDs,DVD-RW, VCDs etc...

I found my answers on Ubuntu's Help website : https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Mu...plications#vlc

Thanks again for your help and input, really appreciated. :-D
