Visioneer 5800 scanner driver

I have a friend who is running the latest stable version of Ubuntu. He has been able to get most things to work on his system without issue, but he has one device that he cannot find drivers or support for. He has a Visioneer 5800 flat-bed scanner and he has checked the site for Linux drivers and found none. He knows of Sane and has checked the documentation at their project site and sees no support for his particular scanner. Does anyone else here own a scanner like this or know of any other project or driver that might help him out?

Install sane-utils and run sane-find-scanner.

I think there's a tool for XSane under Applications-->Graphics-->Xsane Image Scanner.

I have the same problem and sad to say sane did not find the scanner

Dang man, this thread is old! I can see the cobwebs on it. :)

Unfortunately, it looks like your scanner is not supported by sane. You'll have to either use Windows with it or get another scanner. Sucks to say it, but that's just how it is.
