video resolutions restricted

I have installed Ubuntu 10.10 and I have restricted video resolutions ...max 800x600...

Section "Device"
Identifier "Configured Video Device"
Driver "vesa"
EndSection

Section "Monitor"
Identifier "Configured Monitor"
EndSection

Section "Screen"
Identifier "Default Screen"
Monitor "Configured Monitor"
Device "Configured Video Device"
EndSection

How do I get the actual drivers and configurations instead of these generic ones.

I have an SIS 760 video chip and a Sharp lcd moniter: lc19SK24U

I want to be able to get better resolution than 800x600

Thanks in advance

You can try using xrandr to use undetected video resolutions: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Config/Resolution
I suspect that using the vesa driver is the limiting factor here. If you read "man sis" you can try changing the driver in xorg.conf to "sis". There do not seem to be any other options for the Sis 760: http://fedoraforum.org/forum/showthread.php?t=205806
