Using boot.ini when booting Ubuntu
 

Hi,

I'm thinking on installing Ubuntu after having used Slackware for a while but I wonder if you can install it the same way as Slack when it comes to booting. In Slack you can use boot.ini from windows as your bootmanager and install the linuxbootmanager LILO to the superblock of the linuxpartition.

I tried finding out if that's possible but is there anyone here that is using Ubuntu in combination with the boot.ini from windows?

Well, easy removal of linux without messing around with the MBR is one I can think of... But for the majority it's because i'm used to using the bootloader of windows for my dual boot.

But convince me otherwise, i'm open to change ;)

Yep, this is possible. In fact it's what I use; for good or for bad, I leave my MBR under Window's control..

This seems to work with many flavours of Linux - Debian, Ubuntu, Mepis, Mandrake are just a few I have checked out.

The basis is outlined here: http://www.geocities.com/epark/linux...2k-HOWTO.html. It's designed for Redhat, but seems to work for any linux, with minor tweaking. Perhaps I'll write an Ubuntu specific version.
