username and password login
I have just installed the latest ubuntu and the setup goes fine until i get to the login screen. This has driven me crazy. I have gone through the setup 3 times and have written down my username and password on a piece of paper, when i get to the login screen i input these and it says i have the wrong username and password. I have done 3 re installs there are no caps or anything it just doesnt let me in:@

Has anyone else come across this problem?

Any help would be greatly appreciated..

You've probably already tried this, but if not its worth a try.

Do you have any numbers in your password?

If so and you are using the 10 key for those numbers, make sure that numlock is on.

is this the root user? or a user you created?
if its a user you created try becoming that user through 'su' as root ie:
if you can/can't do that check /etc/passwd (vipw) check that your user is in this file.

Usernames and passwords are case sensitive by the way.
