Used Synaptic to download Enlightenment
Used Synaptic to download Enlightenment, but how do I 'turn it on'? I searched in all the menus to see if I could find a link, but no can do. Any suggestions?

Hey Newbie,
Use the search feature in Synaptic to find out the file name, then search for that file using the search feature on the start menu. This may seem really simplistic, but i think this is what your trying to do. Once you find out what subdirectory it was installed in you can always create a shortcut and put it on your desktop.

can you run it from a terminal window, try typing enlightenment or enlightenment_start. Have them come up in your gdm menu?
If you just downloaded them from synaptic, then you have e16. You should search the ubuntu forums for set up instructions so you can get a hold of e17 and get some serious eyecandy

I searched all my menus for anything to do with Enlightenment, but I don't think I saw anything. I'll try typing the commands at the terminal and see what happens.
I was trying to figure out how to install e17, but I haven't come across any instructions that will help out a complete to Linux I'll keep looking.

Enlightenment should be available in the GDM menu. When you get the login screen, click "Sessions" and see if it is there.

Thanks Ian... I'll check it out when I get back to my Linux box.
So if I'm checking my login screen, there should be some sort of menu where I can choose Enlightenment over the default desktop manager?
Small question from curious - what's the GDM menu? (Like to learn what new terms mean)

Enlightment is a DE. So, it's very probable that you'll find it in the GDM/Log in. Click on seasons and it will be listed there.
