usbhid 1-1.4:1.2: can't add hid device: -110

Hi,

I've seen this message many times on different computers, currently Ubuntu on an ODROID XU4. It does not seem to be a problem.

How do I find out what it is trying to add?
Code:
Feb 12 00:28:05 odroid kernel: [ 30.672910] [c6] usbhid 1-1.4:1.1: can't add hid device: -110
Feb 12 00:28:05 odroid kernel: [ 30.678626] [c6] usbhid: probe of 1-1.4:1.1 failed with error -110
Feb 12 00:28:05 odroid kernel: [ 55.682915] [c0] usbhid 1-1.4:1.2: can't add hid device: -110
Feb 12 00:28:05 odroid kernel: [ 55.690609] [c0] usbhid: probe of 1-1.4:1.2 failed with error -110

i also had that on my old mobo.
never managed to fix it (or even be 100% sure what it means), never did any harm.

Configuration: ODROID XU4 with a 314GB HDD connected via USB3, Ubuntu image provided by Hardkernel. The HDD has 2 30GB partitions, sda1 & sda5.

The following fstab entry provides convenient occasional access to the HDD.
Code:
/dev/sda1 /mnt/tmp auto noauto,defaults,users,exec 0 0
If I connect a second USB drive, I do not get the usbhid messages and 1-minute delay.
If I comment out the fstab entry, no messages or delay.
With the entry and no second drive, I get the messages and delay.

Why?

you didn't mention the 1-minute delay in your first post; that IS problematic (and not what i experienced).

ok.
can you reproduce the problem when you mount the hd manually? or somehow add a delay?
maybe it just needs a little time to warm up, get enough power to a usb - who knows how an odroid works...

With the noauto fstab entry, manual mounting is required and there is no delay.

The attempted usbhid adds occur less than 10 seconds into the normally 30-second boot process.
This morning I booted with the entry present and there was no delay. It's not consistent.

The problem occurs when the computer is turned off with a USB device plugged in, and the device is missing when turned on again. Very consistent.
