I looked at the kubuntu official site and it just says "upgrade online". With no detailed instructions or cautions.

What should I do before trying the online upgrade from 9.04 to 9.10?

Shall I stop for example my NVIDIA graphic driver?

Other such cautions?

I saw on the site that there is the possibility to upgrade from an "alternate CD". What is it? I could not find it in the download section.

I am online with an ADSL speedtouch usb modem with proprietary firmware.
Will I have any problem because of that? (I read some where that before upgrading I had better stop any proprietary driver...)

Before I did it; I would make a LiveCD/USB backup of my complete install
using remastersys backup
it will make a livecd of your whole system, including /home and /root

or backup another way
