Upgrade to Ubuntu 8.04. Error authenticating some packages.
 

I am trying to upgrade from ubuntu 7.10 to 8.04.
I get the Error Message;-
Error authenticating some packages.
This then gives;- libdb3
Anyone have a way around this please?

If you haven't already, and if you don't have a compelling reason I would wait with upgrading to 8.04. Many people are having a lot of trouble with this release. Including everybody I know who runs it... which would be 2 people, but still :)

If you have to:
This is one of the errors that come and go. I would just try an apt-get update && apt-get upgrade in a few days and then start the update-manager again (do not upgrade with apt-get dist-upgrade!)

It is disappointing that Ubuntu is letting us down having thus far built a good reputation. I would have hoped that the community would have offered a solution even if Canonical can't.
How about getting a new copy of the offending package (libdb3)?
Are others finding the same difficulty and is it limited to libdb3?
Meanwhile I will follow your advice and try again in a week or so.

What I did next!
A Google search for libdb3
Selected Debian - Details of package libdb3....
Downloaded libdb3 for the i386 architecture and installed.
It is now possible to initiate the update process without the error message.
My next step will be to run the update to 8.04.

You could also just try removing the package and re-installing it after the update... It's quite likely though that it has been replaced with something like libdb3.2 or libdb4...
That's just a wild guess. I don't know what that package does. But rather than installing an alien one, I would remove it and than re-installing it. Hopefully it's not vital to the system :)
Well, there's always chroot.

Again, if you really need to update - if you want some new feature, do it. If you're just doing it because you can, I would wait until support runs out for 7.10.
