upgrade from ubuntu 5.10 to 6.06
I having trouble using the update-manager to upgrade from 5.10 to 6.06. i thought that there would be a message telling me there was an upgrade but i keep refresh my source list. but update-notifier still tells me i am up to date and can't fiqure out what i did to get it work the first time. I upgraded the first time i installed ubuntu 5.10 but had to stop it due to power outage. now i can get it to upgrade to 6.06 again using the update-manager. what is wrong?
the version of update manager is 0.42.2ubuntu12~breezy2
the version of ubuntu is 5.10
why is the message not comming up every time i reinstall ubuntu or update the update managment software

You have to edit your /etc/apt/sources.list and change every instance of "breezy" to "edgy". After that do,
Code:
$sudo apt-get update
$sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

I tryed sudo apt-get update and apt-get dist-update and that once but it screewed up ubuntu and now i am trying to use the offical methode to see if that worked but can't seem to get it to detected the upgreade and give me the pop-up telling me there is a upgrade ready for install. could it just be the version of update-manager not able to find the upgrade or just does not have the component that lets you do a automated upgrade.

What is the official method? The GUI updater just runs the commands above in the background.

The gui updater will upgrade to the latest version if you edit your /etc/apt/sources.list as I mentioned above. The thing is, it will just run the same commands as the ones I posted in order to do the upgrade.
