Smile upgrade from gutsy to hardy using a disk

Hi everyone probably a stupid question but can I upgrade from gutsy to hardy using a disk rather than starting from scratch and repartitioning.

Regards

Terry

It depends - how badly mangled are the Debian package tools?
You could try using 'apt-cdrom' to add the later version to your repository list, then:
comment out the older lines in /etc/apt/sources.list
apt-get update
apt-get dist-upgrade

Odds are it will work; I can't think of any big changes between the two that would be likely to kill some installed packages etc.

But - just in case, backup your data and backup your list of installed software (so you don't spend several days installing software as you realize you need it).

The alternate install cd can be used to upgrade. See http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/upgr...c0a9d33f54279d .
