Upgrade from 6.06 to 6.10 with CD
What is the best way to upgrade from Dapper to Edgy if I have the Standard Desktop CD? I saw that there is a 'Alternate' CD also and i heard that that is the CD that I should be upgrading from. I tried upgrading with the gksu "update-manager -c" line and that was a disaster, not sure why but I has to do a reinstall on my desktop. I would prefer not doing that on the laptop as that has a lot more on it and I would prefer not reinstalling everything.
Is there a way to use the Live CD that I have and upgrade via that? I thought that I at one time saw instructions on how to do that but I can not find them now.
You can't use the Desktop CD as an upgrade CD, it hasn't got an apt repository on it. If you want to upgrade from a CD you need to go with the alternate CD

Thanks. I downloaded the 'Alternate' CD. Do I just reboot the computer with the CD in it? Is there an official Ubuntu site that has the instructions on how to do this upgrade with the Alt CD? I can not seem to find any 'official' instructions. I am a bit gun shy as the last upgrade that I tried to so (without a CD) really crashed and burned...
The main upgrade help is here but the reference to the alternate cd can be easy to miss, so I'll post it here anyway.
You just insert the CD, then open a terminal and type
