Updated Ubuntu 17.04 Desktop i386 to Ubuntu 17.10 USB card not detecting
 

Hello,

I updated my ubuntu 17.04 Desktop i386 to Ubuntu 17.10 last night. This morning im testing it and my usb card is not detecting. I tried it on many usb ports to no avail.

My USB card is FAT32 16GB partition and it does not show as a drive. I tried my tablet and it detects as a usb drive.

Also I cannot open Gparted at all on ubuntu 17.10


Secondary to that, I am confused as there is no image for ubuntu 17.10 desktop i386. But I managed to upgrade to it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I solved my problem by trying plugging in my tablet by usb it detected as a usb drive, then I simply plugged in my troubled usb drive and it detected.

After I thought about my weird bug in ubuntu 17.10. I had tried getting gparted to load during the day and I purged the config files. Now my usb card works great.

I just cant open gparted but its no big deal. I have a bunch of ubuntu dvds on hand to partition stuff. Also the program Disks opens in ubuntu.

Maybe the fstab or config files were messed up or something and my purge just fixed the anomaly.

Anyways this post is solved, im just providing more details on my fix for others.

As far as I can tell the issue with gparted is that Wayland, the windowing system which Ubuntu 17.10 is using, does not allow root to run graphical programs by default. There are ways around this, apparently, and I know I've used gparted under Wayland fine on this machine but I can't find a link that I know will work so, sorry, will leave searching up to the reader.

Thats ok I dont need to use gparted I will just use Disks instead or my ubuntu 17.04 live dvd to partition stuff.
