Unusual exit of pppd/wvdial in Ubuntu.

I have been running Ubuntu for a day now and love it, having some slight issues with connecting to the net though ( and no I am not inexperianced so don't take that approach )

I've properly configured wvdial using the wvdialconf... now I run it and the output is as follows:

zero@Zero:~$ sudo wvdial
--> WvDial: Internet dialer version 1.54.0
--> Initializing modem.
--> Sending: ATZ
ATZ
OK
--> Sending: ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2 +FCLASS=0
ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2 +FCLASS=0
OK
--> Modem initialized.
--> Sending: ATDT7670168
--> Waiting for carrier.
ATDT7670168

--> Carrier detected. Waiting for prompt.

--> Sending: (password)
Entering PPP Session.
IP address is 4.248.233.117
MTU is 1524.
--> Looks like a welcome message.
--> Starting pppd at Thu May 25 01:28:48 2006
--> pid of pppd: 9943
--> Disconnecting at Thu May 25 01:28:48 2006
--> The PPP daemon has died: pppd options error (exit code = 2)
--> man pppd explains pppd error codes in more detail.
--> I guess that's it for now, exiting
--> The PPP daemon has died. (exit code = 2)

Notice the lack of a proper explanation for the exit, the man pages suggest it is an option oriented setting. My login info is correct, it's connecting fine but for some reason randomly exits. The config file (wvdial.conf) is the stock one with modifications where necessary (num.,login,pass) nothing more.

Does anyone have any idea what I might do?

(Pon doesn't work as an alternative connection nor does the GUI version, this is the only working method... well semi-working)

I really would appreciate some assistance!

Thank you,
Louis

P.S. Tried debugging methods such as attempting stupid mode in wvdial.conf. No help.

Could be a number of things. Might try changing the MTU to 576 which is more common for dial-up than ethernet's standard 1500
