uninstall nvidia driver

How do I uninstall the Breezy nvidia driver?

I installed the latest driver 8756 from nvidia. It worked great until I rebooted. Then X broke due to conflicts. I need to uninstall Ubuntu's driver and then reinstall the one from nvidia.

So - how do I uninstall Ubuntu's nvidia driver from the command line?

Thanks

If you can get back to graphical mode, you can use synaptic package manager. If not you can use apt to uninstall them. But I don't know the commands off the top of my head. I think its
Code:
apt-get remove nvidiaglx
or
Code:
apt-get remove nvidia-glx

You need to change the dirver from nvidia to nv via a text editor. Also look is see if dri is loaded. Here is part of my X config.

You might want to post your Xorg.conf. The error that Xorg is kicking out sounds like you've got more than one Nvidia card listed in configuration file. You don't really want to use "nv" instead of "nvidia" beacuse your not really using the nvidia drivers if you use "nv." Also check and make sure if your using the nvidia driver that you have "dri" commented out under the module section. That will cause errors too.

If you uninstall nvidia-glx or whatever, it wont matter. To stop using the nvidia driver, edit your xorg.conf file (/etc/X11/) and change (under the section labeled "Device")

Driver "nvidia"

to

Driver "nv"

or

Driver "vesa"

Uninstalling nvidia-glx will only save disk space afterwards

Thanks. I could have saved a lot of time yesterday If I could have figured that out.
