unable to upgrade to OpenOffice 3 on Ubuntu 8.10

I run Ubuntu 8.10 on a Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop. I followed the directions in this tutorial in order to upgrade OOo to version 3. They are very simple and it seems that they have worked for everyone else but they didn't work for me

I followed the 2 steps and waited for the upgrade button to show up but that was yesterday evening and it still hasn't. Then I also followed the instructions in "Comment #15" on the same link, on how "to do it on the command line". My /etc/apt/sources.list.d/openoffice.list file was empty but now it does have this line:

deb intrepid main

That was 15 minutes ago and still nothing. Maybe one of you gurus could help me upgrade into OOo 3?

I thought that the first person to answer to me (hopefully) would ask me what was the output on the console so here it is:

kostas@todeli:~$ sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list.d/openoffice.list
[sudo] password for kostas:
< The file was empty and I added a line like you see below >
kostas@todeli:~$ cat /etc/apt/sources.list.d/openoffice.list
deb intrepid main
kostas@todeli:~$ sudo apt-get update
