Unable to update package information

I cannot update package information in Synaptic Package Manager. In terminal window it shows inability to connect to 10.3.2.1:8080 (http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/lucid etc). If I point to this url in my browser I can access the files.

Any pointers, anyone?

Can you please post the full output from the terminal?

And do you have any proxies enabled, or any other external networks you are going through?

Archive update problem continued...

Hi corp769,

I have a direct ADSL link to MWeb.co.za. , no proxies set. I get the same result whether I connect to the router with a cable or by WiFi.

This is the error output from Synaptic Package Manager when I do a reload:

I am getting a 404 on many of your sources there.
Can you open Synaptic and select a different mirror? Then click "reload" when prompted. Then see of you can update Ubuntu.

Tommcd beat me to it - you definitely need to select a different mirror. And make sure you have more than just two or three mirrors, I've seen it where something got jacked up, and only two mirrors were listed.

Thanks tommcd and corp769

Thanks for your help.

I feel a prize idiot. I ommitted to check System...Preferences...Network Proxy where
I had remnants of a previously used proxy set. Once removed, all worked fine.

Many thanks for your help, it did point me in the right direction.

LOL It's all good man... Seeing the 10.3.2.11 sounded kind of suspicious to me, and that's why I mentioned about checking your proxy settings. But if your problem is solved, mark your thread as solved using the thread tools, and give rep if applicable. Thanks!
