Unable to run "software updater", Ubuntu software center on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS

I'm unable to update my system Ubuntu 14.04 as software updater isn't running. Also I'm unable to run Ubuntu software center. All these problems arose after I tried to do partial upgrade of my system. I was as such updating my system but it messaged that some applications can be updated only after I do partial upgrade. I clicked on 'partial upgrade' option but it didn't happen successfully. A message was displayed while upgrading as shown in the screen shot attached.

After that I'm unable to run software updater, Ubuntu software center etc.

I would like to add that I'm unable to install anything as I'm getting the below error:
Code:
ravi@ravi-Aspire-5315:~$ sudo apt-get install audacity
[sudo] password for ravi:
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
E: The package libfdk-aac0 needs to be reinstalled, but I can't find an archive for it.

Please provide the exact wording of any error messages you get, even if it means trying to run the command again. Alternatively, you could run the commands

Code:
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
in a terminal, and, if the upgrade fails, post any error messages received, being sure to surround them with "code" tags, which become available when you click the "Go Advanced" button at the bottom of the "Quick Reply" window.

I ran the commands & got the error as mentioned below:

Code:
ravi@ravi-Aspire-5315:~$ sudo apt-get upgrade
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
E: The package libfdk-aac0 needs to be reinstalled, but I can't find an archive for it.
ravi@ravi-Aspire-5315:~$
1st I ran
Code:
sudo apt-get update
before running the upgrade command.

@frankbell, the same error of package "libfdk-aac0" I'm getting if I make any changes in "software & updates" & click reload. Also I get the same error when I try to install libav-tools as shown below
Code:
ravi@ravi-Aspire-5315:~$ sudo apt-get install libav-tools
[sudo] password for ravi:
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
E: The package libfdk-aac0 needs to be reinstalled, but I can't find an archive for it.
The issue is with this package. I feel once I'm able to install it, then I can update my system & run software updater & ubuntu software center.
