Ubutnu 9.4 broke phpmyadmin

I'm following this link: to solve my phpmyadmin blank page issue, I can browse now the http://localhost/phpmyadmin/setup and I'm getting the username/password prompt, but I don't know what is the login information, although I ran sudo dpkg-reconfigure phpmyadmin and I'm sure from the login info which are root as username and pass as password.

any idea please about the above problem?

Can you connect to the mysql server from the command line with "mysql -u root -p"? That should use the same user/password as phpmyadmin.

I don't think there is anything broken about it, in fact, it's working just fine over here.
