Ubuntu wont load on my Laptop Presario

I have an older Compaq Presario 1600 XL-145

Ubuntu wont completely install on it. I load it, after approx. 25 minutes, I get a desktop with 2 icons: one is "Examples" the other, "Install". I click open on the Install icon ..... it chugs .... I hear the CD-ROM working overtime ...... 1 hour into it, still nothing.

Any suggestions?

Regards,

Eric

Looks like an old piece of hardware. I would rather suggest downloading the "Alternate" CD of ubuntu and installing using the text mode on the boot screen. You can later tweak it to make it faster to suit it to your hardware.
