Hello,
Here is the problem :
I try to install Ubuntu 6.10 on my girlfriend's laptop (which has no mark : assembled by the store). It's an Intel Pentium M 1.7, with 1.0 Gb RAM.
When inserting CD and rebooting, I get the usual menu. I change language to French and then try to launch liveCD ... Then it crashes, not able to find cdrom drive (but it booted on in ...)
I get the BusyBox stuff, and it says that it can't mount something because device does not exist (and this device is CDrom)
I had the same problem with alternate CD, with SuSE 10.1, with Mandriva One 2007 ... FC5 and Debian Sarge seem to find cd drive properly.
I tried to pass several parameters and combinations to the kernel : pci=nommconf, acpi=off, acpi=ht, pci=routeirq, pcinopoll, pcipoll, pci=bios, pci=nobios, noapic, nolapic, pci=nodma, ... No change at all ...
Tried to change some options in BIOS, no result ...
Others devices are OK : HD, ethernet, screen, ...
The devices that are launched seem to be launched properly and are the same as used in Debian Sarge (which works but is not suitable) : ahci, libata and ata_piix (and several others which I don't think are related)
I'll try to have a more suitable description later, but I'm not next to the laptop and it has no OS installed, so it's a bit tricky ...
If possible, I would like to avoid installing 7.04, because it's for newbie use ...
I found a clue (maybe) on
http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Proble...not_recognized ... But I don't know how I can tell kernel the order for loading modules (remember : it's during installation, so it's CD's kernel and I can't modify it)
Any help or suggestion would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks !
