Ubuntu Will Not Boot
I install Ubuntu correctly but it will not start up. My computer says disk boot failure and then just stays there. I tried to install it again but the same thing.

Do you get to any sort of boot loader? in other words, do you get the prompt that asks you which Linux to load, or a flash of text in the upper left of your screen that says "root(hd0,0)" or something like that?
Or do you get disk boot failure before any of that?
If the latter, either your hard drive is bad, or it's not setup as a boot device in your BIOS.

You probably didn't select the option to install GRUB to the MBA. GRUB is the boot loader, necessary to start the operating system.

I doesn't say any sort of Linux thing. It just goes to boot disk failure. And with the GRUB thing how do I know if it installed?

I don't believe the location of grub has anything to do with your problem. Not only that, but you would have to try hard to not install grub, it gets installed by default.
Check your BIOS settings for boot drive & make sure your BIOS is booting the correct drive.

I checked the BIOS and it says that the HDD is connected properly. Is there anything else or am I messed up?

If you load LILO or GRUB on a floppy, you should be able to boot to /dev/hda0 or whatever from there.

It has nothing to do with if your BIOS sees the HD... It's if your BIOS is set to boot your computer off your hard drive. There should be a section in there called "Boot Devices" - maybe under "Advanced Options" maybe under "Boot" maybe under "Intergrated Peripherals" - depends on the BIOS. In "Boot Devices", you should have a list of devices that your computer will boot from. Your CDROM drive is one of them, but I'd bet your hard drive is not - or at least *this* hard drive is not if you have more than one.
