Ubuntu Ultimate doesn't see DVD writer, but does see reader in VirtualBox
I am running Windows 7 with Virtual Box (current Version) and I have install a Ubuntu Ultimate version 3.2 as a Virtual Machine. All is well except for my attempts to create DVD's from AVI files. The system doesn't show that I have a DVD writer. Using K3B it doesn't show that a writer is in the system. I have also tried DeeVeDee software as well and it also doesn't see the writing capabilities. If anyone can direct me to the area of this problem I would greatly appreciate it. Is this a Ubuntu system problem or configuration of software packages? Thanks in advance.

What exactly is the problem with devede? I just created a DVD yesterday from avi files on Ubuntu11.04. You can create an iso image with devede and run it in vlc or whatever movie player you are using as well as burn it to disk with k3b or other software. I'd suggest googling for some tutorials on devede. I just started using devede two days ago and one of the things I was able to do was create a DVD from AVI files. More specifics on your point of failure would help. Here's a link to one. I can't seem to find the one I used. I'll post a link to it if I do.

I think it the OP has two problems, not having a DVD writer visible and not being able to create a movie DVD from AVI files which should not be that difficult with devede. Once he has done that he would still need to burn the image and your link should help with that but there isn't much detail in his posts on what he has tried or what has failed?

DVD help in Ubuntu
Thanks guys for all your continued help... I have found out that there is something I needed to adjust, due to the system I am using. In virtual box I did not have the Drives mapped correctly. It gives an option to select Pri-Master, Pri-Slave, Secondary master and slave. I did not have them selected properly and therefore the the pass-through option wasn't actually enabled. I selected that both of my DVD writers (Same brand and style) are now pointing to secondary master and slave. Both now have pass-through selected and both are showing in
K3B correctly as DVD writers. I am now ready to attempt some movies. The main goal has always been to take either AVI or MPG files and make DVD's that can play in my DVD player. Is DeeVeDee the best option for easiest making. I guess this is an issue with having a SATA system and not EIDE. |
