My Wife's primary machine is a laptop running Ubuntu 09.10. It has somehow gotten mangled. It was taking forever to boot and I booted it several times into Recovery Mode, where it updated what it thought were damaged packages. I see now that it no longer has an app to manage services. SSH and MySQL are no longer running and I am wondering what I need to do to get this machine back to normal. For the record, this machine is dual booted and Windows had a lot of trouble booting also, but it apparently has repaired itself. I did an emergency backup of her home directory, just in case the hard disk is damaged. Here is the output from dmesg:
