Ubuntu on USB

Is there a way to successfully install Ubuntu on a flash drive? I installed 5.10 on my flash drive but it fails to recognize the usb drive once the kernel loads. I assume the usb-storage/sd_mod modules are not part of the stock kernel.

Is any of you running Ubuntu on USB?

I think your on the right lines there, heres a link to similar problem ant the workaround http://lists.debian.org/debian-boot/.../msg01601.html . Just for your info there is always cpx-mini which is debian/knoppix/kanotix and installs onto flash drive.http://www2.informatik.hu-berlin.de/~bading/cpx-mini/ - worked for me first try :-)
